Notre Dame or Boston College for law school prep?

I’m a high school senior trying to choose between Notre Dame and Boston College, and I’m interested in eventually applying to law school.

Both seem like strong schools, but I’m trying to figure out which one has the better reputation or track record for preparing undergrads for law school.

For law school prep, Notre Dame probably has a slight edge in reputation and national reach, but Boston College is also a very strong option and can be especially appealing if you want easier access to legal internships during the school year. Notre Dame has a particularly established pre-law culture, a nationally recognizable name, and a law school on campus that can create useful academic and advising connections. Boston College offers strong advising too, plus the advantage of being in the Boston area, where there are many courts, firms, nonprofits, and policy organizations nearby.

Notre Dame tends to fit the student who wants a classic residential college experience with a strong alumni network and a campus culture that feels cohesive and tradition-heavy. If you are drawn to a nationally connected alumni base, close-knit undergraduate life, and a school whose brand travels well across different regions, Notre Dame is attractive for future law applicants. It is also a place where students interested in politics, philosophy, history, theology, and similar writing-heavy fields often find a lot of intellectual support.

Boston College makes a lot of sense for the student who wants to plug into a major legal and professional city earlier. Being near downtown Boston can make semester-time internships more practical, which matters if you want real exposure to legal work before applying to law school. BC also has strong strengths in political science, economics, history, and social justice-oriented work, which can pair well with pre-law interests.

For actual law school admissions, the more important factors will be GPA, LSAT, writing ability, and substantive experiences. On that front, both schools can get you where you want to go. I’d lean Notre Dame if you care more about national prestige and a strongly rooted campus network, and lean Boston College if you want urban access and legal internships woven into your undergraduate years.
