What is the campus atmosphere like at USC compared with Northeastern?
I'm trying to get a better feel for the day-to-day campus experience at these two schools beyond the brochures. I know USC and Northeastern are both in big cities, but I keep hearing their campus vibes are pretty different.
I'm mostly interested in the overall atmosphere, like whether one feels more traditional, social, or integrated into the city than the other.

The biggest day-to-day difference is that USC feels much more like a classic residential college campus inside Los Angeles, while Northeastern feels more woven into the city and more career-paced. USC has a distinct enclosed campus, a major school-spirit culture around athletics, and a stronger sense that students spend a lot of time in a shared campus bubble. Northeastern, by contrast, sits right in Boston with a more urban flow, lots of movement on and off campus, and a campus culture shaped heavily by co-op and internships.
At USC, the atmosphere is usually described as more traditional and socially visible. There is a big sports presence, a lot of student events, Greek life has historically been more noticeable than at Northeastern, and the school tends to have a stronger rah-rah identity. Even though it is in LA, many students say campus itself feels self-contained, so your social life often revolves around other USC students and campus organizations.
Northeastern tends to feel more practical, fast-moving, and city-integrated. The campus is real and well-defined, but it does not create quite the same insulated feeling. Because so many students do co-ops, schedules can be less synchronized, which changes the social rhythm. You still get clubs, events, and community, but the vibe is often more independent and professionally oriented than at USC.
The surrounding cities matter too. USC is in Los Angeles, where life can feel more spread out and campus-centered unless you actively explore. Northeastern is in a dense part of Boston, so walking to internships, other neighborhoods, concerts, or cafes is more naturally part of everyday student life.
