Is Northeastern harder to get into than Georgetown?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Georgetown is typically viewed as the more traditionally selective school overall, while Northeastern can feel unpredictable because of how heavily application volume, Early Decision, and enrollment management shape its process. In plain terms, Georgetown is usually harder to get into on pure academic and admissions prestige grounds, but Northeastern can also be very tough simply because so many students apply and the school manages its class very strategically. For building a college list, you should treat both as reaches for most applicants, with Georgetown usually the steeper climb.

Georgetown’s applicant pool tends to be exceptionally strong, and its admissions process is known for putting a lot of weight on rigorous coursework, strong writing, and a clear academic fit. It also has its own application elements, including multiple school-specific essays, which can make the process more demanding and self-selecting.

Northeastern is highly competitive too, but in a somewhat different way. It draws huge interest because of co-op, location in Boston, and strong career outcomes, and that creates a very crowded pool. Its selectivity can look especially sharp because many students apply, and applying Early Decision can matter more there than at Georgetown, which does not offer ED.

So if the question is simply which school is harder to get into overall, Georgetown is the better answer. If the question is which one may feel less predictable in practice, that is often Northeastern. For your list, I would not label either one a target unless your profile is clearly at the very top of each school’s typical applicant pool.
