How does social life at Williams compare with Princeton for an undergraduate student?
I'm trying to figure out what day-to-day student life feels like at each school, not just the academics. I know Williams is smaller and Princeton is a big Ivy, but I'm more curious about how social life actually feels for an undergrad.
I want to understand the overall vibe, since that seems like it could make a big difference in whether I'd be happy at one school or the other.

Williams and Princeton can both offer close friendships and active student communities, but the social feel is pretty different day to day. Williams tends to feel intimate, residential, and campus-centered because it is a small liberal arts college in a rural setting, so a lot of social life happens through dorms, student organizations, team communities, and campus events. Princeton has a larger undergraduate population and more variety in how people socialize, with a stronger mix of residential college life, eating clubs, clubs and organizations, and access to a more expansive university environment.
Williams often appeals to students who want to know a large share of the student body by face, run into the same people often, and live in a community where campus is the main social world. Because Williamstown is small and fairly isolated, students usually make their own fun on campus, and that can create a very tight-knit atmosphere. The upside is closeness and strong community; the tradeoff is that the social scene can feel smaller, more repetitive, and harder to step away from if you want anonymity or lots of different circles.
Princeton fits students who like having more social options and a little more room to reinvent themselves. Residential colleges matter a lot early on, and upperclass social life is shaped in part by eating clubs, which are a distinctive feature of Princeton culture even though they are not the whole social scene. Some students enjoy that there are many pathways into campus life, from performances to service groups to research communities to club sports, while others find the social structure more stratified than at a place like Williams.
In practice, Williams often feels more uniformly communal, while Princeton can feel more layered. At Williams, your academic, residential, and social circles may overlap heavily. At Princeton, it is easier to have separate friend groups and move among different scenes.
