Which is better for return on investment, Villanova or Bucknell?

I’m trying to compare these two schools from a practical standpoint, not just prestige or campus vibe. I want to understand which one tends to give students a better return on investment after graduation.

I’m mainly thinking about how the degree, career outcomes, and overall cost might balance out over time.

For return on investment, Villanova usually has the edge for the student who wants broader access to employers, stronger name recognition in major East Coast job markets, and more built-in pathways into business, finance, nursing, engineering, and large-company recruiting. Its location near Philadelphia matters, and Villanova’s alumni network is especially visible in the Northeast. If your plan involves internships during the school year or careers where employer access and regional reputation directly affect early earnings, Villanova often comes out ahead.

Villanova tends to make the most financial sense for students pursuing fields with clear recruiting structures. The business school is a big part of that, and the university’s proximity to a major city can make networking and internships more practical while you are still enrolled. That can improve post-grad outcomes in a very immediate way, especially in accounting, finance, consulting-related roles, and healthcare-adjacent fields.

Bucknell can offer excellent ROI too, but it fits a slightly different student. It is especially attractive for someone who wants a more traditional residential liberal arts environment with strong teaching, close faculty access, and solid outcomes in engineering, management, and the sciences. Bucknell graduates do well, and the school has a loyal alumni base, but its smaller scale and more remote location can mean you need to be more proactive about building off-campus experience and networking.

From a cost perspective, the answer can swing heavily based on your actual financial aid package. At full price, both are expensive enough that the difference in scholarships or grants may matter more than small differences in reputation. If Bucknell gives you meaningfully more merit aid, that can absolutely outweigh Villanova’s broader market reach. If the prices are close, Villanova is often the more practical long-term bet because of internship access, employer visibility, and the range of pre-professional options.
