How do UVA and Georgia Tech compare for internship opportunities in college?
I’m trying to decide between UVA and Georgia Tech, and one of the biggest factors for me is getting good internships during college. I know both schools have strong reputations, but I’m not sure how that actually translates into internship access and recruiting.
I’m mostly interested in how easy it is to find solid internship opportunities as an undergrad and how much support students get in landing them.

Georgia Tech has the edge for internship opportunities, especially if you are considering engineering, computer science, data, or other technical fields. Its location in Atlanta gives students direct access to a major job market during the school year, and the school’s long-standing co-op and internship culture makes work experience feel built into the undergraduate path. Employers recruit there very intentionally for technical talent, so undergrads often see a high volume of internship listings, career fair activity, and alumni connections in industry.
Another advantage is geography. Being in Atlanta means easier access to in-semester internships, part-time roles, startup work, and networking with major employers without needing to leave campus for an entire summer. For students in business, consulting, policy, finance, or liberal arts, UVA still offers strong outcomes and a powerful alumni network, especially on the East Coast, but its internship access is a bit more dependent on summer recruiting and external networking because Charlottesville is a smaller market.
UVA does provide solid support through its career center, employer events, and alumni base, and students absolutely land excellent internships. But if the specific question is which school makes internship access feel more constant, structured, and employer-driven during college, Georgia Tech is the one that stands out more clearly.
