Is UT Austin or the University of Georgia better for a business major?

I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list, and both UT Austin and the University of Georgia are on it. I’m interested in business and want to choose the school that would give me the stronger overall experience for that major.

I’m mostly trying to understand which one is generally considered better for undergrad business education and career opportunities.

For undergraduate business, UT Austin is usually viewed as the stronger option overall, especially if you want a school with broader national reach, very strong recruiting, and the depth of a large flagship business program. Its McCombs School of Business has a particularly strong reputation with employers, and Austin gives students access to a major business and tech hub during the school year. UGA’s Terry College of Business is also well respected, but it tends to be especially strongest in the Southeast rather than carrying quite the same national pull.

UT Austin makes the most sense for a student who wants a highly visible business program and expects to chase internships early. McCombs benefits from strong pipelines into consulting, finance, accounting, tech, and corporate roles, and being in Austin helps with networking during semesters, not just over summers. For a student who wants a bigger-name business school on a resume and is comfortable in a large, competitive environment, UT Austin usually has the edge.

UGA fits a student who wants a strong business education in a more classic college-town setting and plans to build a career largely in Georgia or the broader Southeast. Terry has a very good reputation, especially with regional employers, and UGA offers a spirited campus culture, loyal alumni base, and solid outcomes in fields like accounting, finance, marketing, and real estate. For some students, that combination of school spirit, regional network, and slightly less intense atmosphere is more appealing than UT’s scale.

If your question is purely about which school is more widely considered stronger for undergrad business and career opportunities, I’d give that nod to UT Austin. If your career goals are concentrated in the Southeast and you care a lot about traditional campus life, UGA becomes more compelling.
