Is USC or San Diego State better for a business major?

I’m a high school junior trying to figure out which school would be the better fit for business. USC and San Diego State both seem like strong options, but I’m not sure how they compare in terms of business education and opportunities.

I want to understand which one is generally considered stronger for a student planning to major in business.

For business specifically, USC is usually viewed as the more powerful option academically and professionally, especially if you want a highly resourced undergraduate business program with a big national alumni network. San Diego State is still a solid business school, but it tends to make the most sense for students who want a more affordable path and are especially interested in building a career in Southern California.

USC fits the student who wants a more selective, brand-name business environment and is excited to take advantage of a very connected alumni base. If you are aiming at competitive corporate roles right out of college, USC tends to open more doors.

San Diego State works well for a student who wants a practical, respected business education without paying private-school tuition. It can be an especially smart option for marketing, management, entrepreneurship, and careers rooted in the local or broader California market.

A lot depends on cost and career goals. If USC is financially realistic for your family, it is the stronger name in business and usually offers more reach. If SDSU would leave you with much less debt, that financial flexibility can easily outweigh some of USC’s advantages, especially in a field like business where internships, networking, and your own initiative matter a lot.
