How does USC social life compare to Boston College for undergrads?

I’m trying to get a better feel for what day-to-day student life is like at each school beyond the brochures. I’ve heard USC has a really active social scene, and Boston College seems more campus-centered, but I’m not sure how that actually feels as a student.

I’m mainly wondering which one tends to have the more social, outgoing environment for undergrads.

USC tends to feel more socially expansive and outward-facing, while Boston College usually feels more contained and campus-centered. At USC, the social scene is active across many channels at once: Greek life, major sports energy, student organizations, apartment gatherings, and the broader Los Angeles setting. At Boston College, undergrad life is often more anchored in the residential campus itself, with a strong community feel but a somewhat tighter social orbit.

For the student who wants a lively, outgoing environment with lots of movement, USC usually feels bigger socially. There is more of a high-energy, visible school-spirit culture, and the size of the student body plus the LA location creates more variation in what a weekend can look like. Some students love that there is always something happening and that social life is not limited to one lane.

For the student who likes a more cohesive campus community, Boston College can be very appealing. A lot of undergrad life revolves around friends, dorm communities, campus events, and traditions, so it can feel easier to recognize people and settle into a stable circle. The atmosphere is still social, but often in a more contained and less sprawling way than USC.

USC can feel more extroverted in the day-to-day sense. People often describe it as socially open, image-aware, and energetic, with more overlap between campus life and city life. Boston College often comes across as friend-group oriented and community-driven, with less of the constant buzz that USC has but more of a classic residential-college rhythm.

If the question is simply which school tends to feel more social and outgoing for undergrads, USC usually has the edge. Boston College is definitely social too, but it more often appeals to students who want a strong campus community rather than a broader, always-on social scene.
