Northwestern is still a strong option, especially for a student who wants banking access without being in such an intensely pre-professional finance culture. It places well into investment banking, particularly through economics, MMSS, industrial engineering, and other analytical majors, and it has solid alumni networks in Chicago and New York. For someone who wants a broader academic feel, more flexibility across disciplines, or a slightly less saturated finance crowd, Northwestern can be very appealing while still keeping banking realistic.

The main reason people keep pointing to Penn is that Penn, and especially Wharton, is one of the most direct and established routes into investment banking in the country. If your priority is maximizing recruiting advantage, alumni pull, and the sheer volume of finance-specific opportunity, Penn is the stronger place to be.
