Is Notre Dame or Wake Forest better for pre-med?

Wake Forest is also an excellent pre-med option, but it tends to fit students who want a smaller, more intimate environment and especially value close access to a medical school and clinical settings. Both can get students to medical school, but they do it through somewhat different campus experiences.

Notre Dame tends to suit the student who wants a classic residential college feel with a big, well-resourced undergraduate community. Its strengths for pre-med include strong biology and chemistry departments, substantial undergraduate research opportunities, and a culture that places real value on service, which matters because medical school applicants often need meaningful patient-facing and community work.

Wake Forest makes a lot of sense for someone who wants more personal scale and close faculty interaction from the start. One of its biggest advantages is the connection to Wake Forest School of Medicine and the broader health system, which can make clinical exposure, shadowing, and medically related research feel more integrated into the undergraduate experience. Students who learn best in smaller classes and want professors to know them well often find that environment very appealing.

If the question is which is more broadly powerful for pre-med preparation, I’d lean Notre Dame because of its overall academic depth, name recognition, and the sheer range of support and opportunities available. If the question is where a student might feel more directly plugged into medicine earlier and in a more personal setting, Wake Forest has a very compelling case. In practice, the stronger choice depends a lot on whether you want scale and breadth or closeness and early clinical immersion.
