Notre Dame vs Wake Forest for business: which is better for recruiting and career outcomes?

I’m a high school senior trying to choose between Notre Dame and Wake Forest for business. Both seem strong, but I’m mostly trying to figure out which one has the better overall reputation for business recruiting and getting students into good internships and first jobs.

I’m not looking at one specific major yet, just the general business path and how the schools compare for career opportunities.

For overall business recruiting and career outcomes, Notre Dame usually has the stronger pull. It has a broader national alumni network, very established on-campus recruiting through the Mendoza College of Business, and particularly strong placement into finance, consulting, accounting, and major corporate leadership programs. If your main priority is maximizing brand recognition and access to recruiters across multiple regions, Notre Dame tends to offer more reach.

Notre Dame is the better fit for the student who wants a business school with national visibility and a loyal alumni base that is known for opening doors. Its name travels well beyond the Midwest, and that matters when you are applying for internships in places like Chicago, New York, Dallas, or the West Coast. Mendoza also benefits from the university’s overall reputation and a culture where alumni engagement is unusually strong, which can make networking feel more structured and responsive.

Wake Forest makes a lot of sense for the student who wants strong outcomes in a smaller, more personal setting, especially if they may target the Southeast or value close advising. Wake has a good reputation with employers, and its business school is well respected, but its recruiting footprint is usually more regional and a bit less expansive than Notre Dame’s. Students often do well there because the school is relationship-driven and career support can feel very hands-on.

If you are interested in high-finance, consulting, or simply keeping the widest range of national options open, Notre Dame has the clearer edge. If you value individualized attention, a smaller-school environment, and can see yourself building your career in the Southeast, Wake Forest is still a strong option.
