Which is better for internships, UC Riverside or UCLA?

I’m trying to choose between UC Riverside and UCLA, and I keep hearing that one school might be better for getting internships. I know both are good UC options, but I’m mostly thinking about which one gives students more access to opportunities while in college.

I’m especially wondering which school tends to have the stronger internship network and easier access to employers for a student trying to build experience.

UCLA usually offers the stronger internship access. Its location in Westwood places students much closer to major employers in Los Angeles, and the university has a broader alumni network that tends to open more doors in media, tech, business, health, and public service.

That said, UC Riverside can still work very well for a student who is proactive and wants a somewhat less crowded environment. UCR students often have solid access to opportunities in the Inland Empire, local government, education, healthcare, logistics, and nearby Southern California industries.

UCLA makes the most sense for someone who wants a dense internship ecosystem built into the school’s surroundings. If you are aiming at fields where networking and brand visibility matter a lot, such as entertainment, finance, consulting, startups, or large nonprofit work, UCLA tends to create more natural openings during the school year. Being in Los Angeles also makes part-time internships during the quarter much more realistic.

UC Riverside fits a student who is comfortable creating momentum independently and who may value a more accessible campus experience. If you plan to build experience through research, community-based work, regional employers, or a niche path where personal initiative matters more than school visibility, UCR can absolutely get you there. But on the specific question of internship network and employer access while in college, UCLA has the clearer edge.
