Is UCLA harder to get into than Princeton for college admissions?

Yes. Princeton is harder to get into than UCLA in overall admissions, and that is true for most applicants. Princeton has a much smaller entering class, receives an enormous volume of highly qualified applications, and admits students through an extremely selective private-university process. UCLA is also very hard to enter, but it enrolls a far larger undergraduate class and operates in the UC system, which changes how applications are evaluated.

One major difference is scale. UCLA is a huge public university with many more undergraduate seats to fill each year, while Princeton is a much smaller private university. Even though UCLA attracts a massive applicant pool and is one of the most sought-after public schools in the country, Princeton’s smaller class size makes each available spot more limited.

Another key difference is how admissions works. Princeton uses a highly holistic review with major emphasis on academic excellence, extracurricular distinction, recommendations, and institutional priorities.
