Is UCLA or Georgetown better for law school admissions and pre-law preparation?

Georgetown has the edge for pre-law preparation and positioning for law school admissions. Its location in Washington, DC gives undergraduates unusually direct access to internships on Capitol Hill, at federal agencies, think tanks, nonprofits, and law-related offices during the school year. Georgetown also has a long-established political and public service culture, so students interested in law tend to find a dense network of peers, alumni, and professors connected to government and legal careers.

Another concrete advantage is environment. Georgetown’s undergraduate strengths in government, political science, international affairs, history, philosophy, and related writing-heavy fields line up very well with the kind of reading, analysis, and argumentation that help before law school. The school’s advising and campus culture make it easier to find debate, public policy, advocacy, and research opportunities that feel closely tied to legal interests rather than only loosely adjacent.

UCLA is still an excellent route, especially if cost is significantly lower or you would thrive more there academically. For law school admissions, GPA and LSAT matter far more than a school having a "pre-law" label, and UCLA offers outstanding academics, major flexibility, strong student organizations, and access to internships in Los Angeles.

One important practical note is that the better choice for law school admissions is also the place where you are more likely to earn a very high GPA, write well, build close faculty relationships, and graduate with manageable debt before law school.
