UC Irvine vs Claremont McKenna for business: which is better for career opportunities?

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between UC Irvine and Claremont McKenna for business-related goals. I know both schools are well respected, but I’m trying to understand which one tends to be stronger for internships, recruiting, and post-college career opportunities in business.

I’m not looking at a specific major yet, just trying to get a sense of which school has the better overall reputation and support for someone who wants to go into business.

For business-focused career opportunities, Claremont McKenna usually has the stronger edge, especially if you are interested in finance, consulting, economics, or roles where tight alumni networks and on-campus recruiting matter a lot. The small size also means recruiting tends to feel more personal, with easier access to professors, alumni, and advising.

CMC tends to suit the student who wants a highly career-oriented environment from the start. Through the Claremont Colleges consortium, you also get access to a broader student network and additional classes while still keeping the benefits of a small liberal arts college.

UC Irvine makes more sense for the student who wants a larger university environment, more academic breadth, and strong access to the Orange County and Southern California job market. UCI has a respected business school through the Paul Merage School of Business, and its location is a real advantage for internships in tech, real estate, healthcare, accounting, and corporate roles. There are simply more students and more scale, which can create lots of opportunities, though you may need to be more proactive to stand out and build close relationships.

So if your main priority is career support, recruiting access, and a concentrated pipeline into business-oriented jobs, Claremont McKenna is the one that more often stands out. If cost, campus size, and the broader UC experience matter more, UC Irvine can still lead to excellent outcomes, especially for a student who is proactive about internships and networking.
