Which is better for pre-med, UC Davis or Ohio State?

Both can get you to medical school, but they feel different day to day. Davis is often seen as especially cohesive for pre-med, and Ohio State tends to offer scale, breadth, and big-school resources.

UC Davis stands out because the School of Medicine, UC Davis Health in Sacramento, strong life sciences departments, and the campus’s long-standing strengths in biological and agricultural sciences all create a very natural pre-med pipeline. It is also known for undergraduate research access and a student culture where pre-health is common, so advising, coursework, and peer networks often line up well with that goal. For some students, that concentration makes it easier to find a path early.

Ohio State’s advantage is the size of its medical and research enterprise. The Wexner Medical Center, large faculty base, and Columbus location can translate into a huge range of labs, specialties, shadowing settings, and volunteering options. That can be excellent for pre-med, especially if you want a lot of choice and are comfortable navigating a very large university system to find your niche.

Academically, neither school gives you a built-in edge with medical school admissions just from the name alone. What matters more is where you can earn strong grades, build close faculty relationships, get meaningful clinical exposure, and sustain the process over several years.
