Binghamton or Temple for city life: which offers a more urban college experience?

I’m trying to decide between these two schools and city life is a big factor for me. I want to know which one feels more like being in or near a real city, with easier access to things to do outside campus.

I’m not looking at academics here, just the overall city vibe and how urban the day-to-day experience feels as a student.

Temple is much more urban in day-to-day student life. Its campus sits in Philadelphia, so the city is not something you visit occasionally, it is the setting around you every day. You have public transit right by campus, neighborhoods, restaurants, music venues, museums, internships, and city events all woven into the normal student routine.

Temple fits someone who wants college to feel embedded in a real city, with off-campus life available without much planning. If you like the idea of hopping on SEPTA, exploring different parts of Philly, going to concerts or downtown spots, and feeling that constant city energy, Temple delivers that far more clearly.

Binghamton has some town access, but it does not feel urban in the same way. The university is in Vestal, and while downtown Binghamton exists and gives students places to eat, hang out, and go out at night, it is more of a smaller city and college-town mix than a fully urban environment. In practice, many students treat campus as its own bubble and make occasional trips off campus rather than living inside a major city rhythm.

Binghamton makes more sense for someone who wants some local off-campus options without having city life dominate the whole experience. There is still stuff to do, especially downtown, but it takes more intention and the surrounding environment feels quieter and more contained.

If your main question is which school feels more like living in or right next to a real city, Temple is the clearer answer.
