Binghamton vs Fordham for finance: which is better for recruiting and internships?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Binghamton and Fordham and I want to study finance. Both seem solid, but I keep seeing different opinions about how each school helps with getting internships and job opportunities after graduation.

I’m trying to understand which one has the stronger overall setup for finance students.

For finance, Fordham usually has the clearer edge for recruiting and internships because of location and employer access. Binghamton can still lead to strong outcomes, especially for a proactive student, but its setup depends more on traveling, networking intentionally, and using summers very well.

Fordham fits the student who wants finance woven into daily college life. Being in or near Manhattan matters in this field: easier coffee chats, more frequent firm presentations, quicker trips to interviews, and more chances to turn one internship into the next. For students interested in banking, asset management, corporate finance, or advisory work, that proximity can make the recruiting process feel much more accessible.

Binghamton fits the student who wants a strong public university experience and is comfortable creating momentum through clubs, alumni outreach, and targeted internship searches. The School of Management has a solid reputation, and motivated students do place well, especially in New York-related jobs. But the path is a little less built around constant in-person finance access, so you need to be more deliberate about networking and experience-building.

Cost should be part of the comparison too, especially in finance where prestige matters less than many students assume once you have internships, technical skills, and a good network. If Binghamton is much cheaper, that can be a real advantage. But if the price difference is manageable and you know you want a recruiting-heavy, NYC-centered finance path, Fordham’s ecosystem is hard to ignore.

So in terms of pure recruiting and internship setup, Fordham has the stronger platform. Binghamton is still a very respectable option, but it tends to reward the student who is willing to push harder to access the same opportunities.
