What is the campus feel difference between Princeton and Stanford?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Princeton feels more contained, traditional, and tightly centered on undergraduate life, while Stanford feels more expansive, sunny, and spread across a larger, more graduate- and research-heavy environment. Princeton’s campus has a classic residential-college feel with Gothic architecture, a walkable core, and eating clubs that shape part of upperclass social life. Stanford has a much more open physical layout, palm trees and open space, stronger West Coast startup energy, and a student culture that often feels less formal and less enclosed.

Princeton’s setting in a small town reinforces the sense of a close campus bubble, while Stanford’s location gives it a broader, more diffuse feel even though it is still largely campus-centered.
