NYU vs Northeastern for business: which is better for networking and internships?

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between NYU and Northeastern for business. Both seem strong, but I keep hearing different things about which one is better for networking, internships, and getting jobs after graduation.

I’m not trying to compare every detail, just trying to understand which school usually gives business students better access to opportunities and career connections.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: NYU gives you denser day-to-day access to the finance and business world through New York City and Stern’s brand, while Northeastern gives you a more built-in internship structure through co-op. For networking alone, NYU usually has the edge because Stern is deeply tied into NYC recruiting, alumni connections, and employer events. For hands-on work experience before graduation, Northeastern is especially compelling because its co-op model makes that experience part of the academic path rather than something you squeeze in on the side.

If your definition of opportunity is meeting alumni, attending employer panels, and being close to major firms during the school year, NYU is hard to beat. Stern students benefit from a very visible business identity, and being in Manhattan makes coffee chats, in-semester internships, and industry events much more accessible. That matters a lot in fields like investment banking, consulting, media business, luxury, and fintech, where proximity and repeated contact can open doors.

Northeastern is very good on the career preparation side, but in a different way. Its co-op system is one of the clearest pipelines to real work experience, and many students graduate with a stronger resume simply because they have had longer, more structured professional placements. That can be a major advantage for getting jobs, especially if you learn best by working in real settings rather than networking your way into opportunities.

For pure networking power in business, I would lean NYU, especially if you are considering finance-heavy or NYC-centered paths. For internship access in the broader sense, Northeastern is extremely competitive because the school is set up to help students actually accumulate experience.
