Which is generally considered more fun: Indiana University or Arizona State University?

Indiana absolutely has a lively social scene too, but it tends to feel more centered on Bloomington itself, school traditions, and a slightly more contained campus atmosphere.

One big difference is setting and climate. ASU in Tempe benefits from being in a major metro area with year-round sun, lots of off-campus restaurants and nightlife, and an environment where students are often out and about. That creates a very visible social energy. Indiana’s Bloomington campus is beautiful and very well liked by students, but its social life feels more tied to the rhythms of a traditional college town and the school year.

Another differentiator is the type of fun people associate with each school. Indiana is often praised for strong school spirit, a classic campus feel, and a social scene that revolves around campus traditions, basketball culture, and the close-knit college-town experience. ASU has more of a broad, always-on vibe, with a bigger sense of variety in how students spend their free time because of the size of the university and access to the Phoenix area.

Student personality and campus feel also matter here. IU tends to attract students who want a defined residential campus and a more traditional college experience. ASU feels looser, larger, and more outward-facing, which many students read as more fun right away, especially if they picture an active social life beyond campus boundaries.
