Indiana vs Georgetown for business careers: which is better for internships and recruiting?

Georgetown has the stronger overall setup for business careers, especially if you care most about internship access during the school year and a network concentrated in high-powered business and finance circles. Its Washington, DC location makes part-time internships far more realistic than they are in Bloomington, and the McDonough School of Business has especially visible pipelines into consulting, finance, and policy-adjacent business roles.

Location is the biggest separator. At Georgetown, students can intern in DC during the semester, which matters because early experience often snowballs into better junior-year recruiting outcomes. Indiana students absolutely get internships too, but those are more often summer-based and require more deliberate travel or relocation, simply because Bloomington does not offer the same density of nearby employers.

Recruiting structure is the next difference. Indiana’s Kelley School of Business is excellent and very well respected by employers, with especially strong undergraduate career preparation and a reputation for producing polished, job-ready students. Kelley also has standout resources such as workshops, clubs, and specialized programs that can lead to strong placement, but the path often depends more on getting into the right internal tracks and taking initiative early.

Network quality tilts differently at each school. Georgetown’s network is smaller but often carries more weight in elite finance, consulting, and corporate circles, particularly in DC, New York, and other East Coast hubs. Indiana’s network is huge and loyal, and Kelley has a very real recruiting footprint, but Georgetown tends to offer the more advantageous mix of prestige, proximity, and access for business internships while you are still in college.
