Case Western vs Boston University for pre-med: which is better for undergrad?

For pre-med specifically, Case Western usually has the edge for access to research, clinical exposure, and a more integrated health-science environment. Its campus sits right next to the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and the Case Western School of Medicine, which makes shadowing, labs, and hospital-related opportunities unusually accessible. Boston University is also strong, especially through BU Medical Campus and Boston’s healthcare network, but the pre-med path there is often seen as more intense and less personally structured.

Case Western is especially attractive if you want research early. The university is known for undergraduate involvement in STEM labs, and being in University Circle gives students direct proximity to major biomedical institutions. Advising for pre-health is generally well established, and the school has a long-standing reputation for sending students into medicine and related fields.

BU offers major-city advantages and excellent science departments, but the size and pace can make pre-med feel more competitive and less contained. It can be a great fit for a student who wants an urban environment and is comfortable navigating a larger system.
