How does campus life at Brown compare to campus life at Stanford?

Brown and Stanford do feel meaningfully different day to day. Brown’s campus life is usually described as more intimate, artsy, and openly unconventional, with a strong emphasis on student freedom through the Open Curriculum and a walkable college-town setting on College Hill in Providence. Stanford tends to feel bigger, sunnier, and more spread out, with a strong outdoors culture, a residential-campus feel, and more visible energy around entrepreneurship, athletics, and large-scale campus activities.

At Brown, a lot of student life centers on a compact campus where people walk almost everywhere and the line between academic and social identity can feel very fluid. Students often talk about a collaborative, less competitive atmosphere, and the school’s culture has a reputation for being intellectually curious, politically engaged, and comfortable with people carving out unusual paths.
