Is Boston College worth it compared with NYU for undergrad?

If cost is similar, Boston College is absolutely worth it compared with NYU, but whether it is the better choice depends mostly on the kind of college experience and career path you want. BC offers a traditional residential campus, a very strong alumni network especially in the Northeast, and standout undergraduate strength in business through the Carroll School of Management. NYU usually has broader global name recognition and stronger access to internships during the school year because of its New York City location.

For overall student experience, these schools feel very different. BC gives you a classic campus, tighter community, Division I sports culture, and more of a contained undergraduate environment in Chestnut Hill. NYU is much more urban and decentralized, with the city functioning as the campus, which some students love and others find isolating.

On network and career outcomes, both can be excellent, but in slightly different ways. BC’s alumni network has a real reputation for being loyal and responsive, especially in business, consulting, finance, education, and law-related paths. If you are interested in undergraduate business, BC often looks especially compelling because Carroll is highly respected. If you are targeting industries that benefit from being embedded in New York every semester, NYU can offer an edge simply because students can intern, network, and attend industry events constantly during the academic year.

So in value terms, BC is not some clear step down from NYU. It is a strong peer option with a better traditional college experience for many students and excellent outcomes, especially if you want community, alumni loyalty, and a campus-based undergraduate life. NYU tends to make more sense if you specifically want the NYC model and expect to use the city as part of your education from day one.
