How does the Tsinghua University visiting student program work for undergraduate students?

Tsinghua’s visiting student program is generally a non-degree study option, not a full undergraduate admission track. In practice, it is most often used by students who are already enrolled at another university and want temporary study abroad or exchange-style coursework.

Academically, visiting students may take regular university classes, but the exact course access depends on the program, department approval, language of instruction, and the student’s academic background. Some courses are taught in Chinese, while some are available in English. That means the experience can feel quite similar to regular Tsinghua study, but it is usually narrower and more structured than being a full degree student.

The main difference from a full degree program is status and outcome. A full degree student is admitted through Tsinghua’s standard undergraduate admissions process, completes all degree requirements there, and earns a Tsinghua diploma. A visiting student typically earns credits or a transcript for coursework completed during the visit, and those credits may or may not transfer back to the student’s home institution depending on that school’s policies.
