What pre-med options are available for undergraduates at Tsinghua University?
I’m a high school student looking into Tsinghua University and I’m trying to understand whether it has a real path for students who want to go to medical school later. I’m not sure if there is a dedicated pre-med track, or if students usually major in something else and prepare separately for med school.

Tsinghua University does not have a U.S.-style dedicated “pre-med” major or formal pre-med track for undergraduates. Students who want to pursue medicine later usually do one of two things: enroll in Tsinghua’s own medical education pathway through the School of Medicine, or major in a science field such as biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related areas and complete med-school prerequisites separately depending on the country where they plan to apply. The right path depends heavily on whether you want to become a doctor in China or apply to medical school abroad.
At Tsinghua, the School of Medicine offers medical training connected to Chinese medical education, and the university also has strong life sciences, biomedical engineering, and basic science programs that can support students interested in medicine or health research. For students aiming at medical school in the U.S. or another country with a graduate-entry model, there is generally no single official pre-med curriculum. Instead, you would need to choose an undergraduate major and make sure you complete the required coursework, clinical exposure, testing, and application components expected by those medical schools.
That means Tsinghua can be a strong undergraduate place for a future medical applicant, especially because of its strength in biology, engineering, research, and affiliated medical resources, but it is not set up in the same way as colleges that explicitly advise students through a pre-med pipeline. If your goal is practicing medicine in China, you should look closely at the specific medicine programs offered through Tsinghua’s medical school. If your goal is medical school abroad, the key question is not whether Tsinghua has a pre-med major, but whether you can build the exact prerequisite plan and advising support needed for the countries where you want to apply.
