What should I include in the UConn extracurricular profile to make my activities stand out?
I’m working on my UConn application and I’m trying to make the extracurricular profile as strong as possible. I have a mix of school clubs, part-time work, and a couple of activities I’ve done for a few years, but I’m not sure what details matter most.
I want to make sure I’m describing my involvement in a way that actually shows impact and commitment instead of just listing activities.

For UConn, the strongest extracurricular profile is one that shows sustained commitment, real contribution, and clear context. Admissions will care more about what you actually did, how long you did it, and why it mattered than about having a long list of club names. A few well-described activities with leadership, initiative, work responsibility, or measurable impact will stand out more than ten vague entries.
For each activity, include your role, grade levels involved, time commitment, and specific actions.
Your part-time job absolutely belongs in the profile. UConn values responsibility outside the classroom, so paid work, family responsibilities, and long-term commitments can be just as meaningful as formal school clubs. If you trained new employees, handled customers, balanced school with 15 hours of work, or took on extra shifts, say that directly.
Prioritize activities that show depth. If you have two activities you’ve done for several years, those may be more important than shorter involvements unless the shorter one had unusual impact. UConn is a large public university, so they are used to seeing many applicants with common clubs; what makes yours stronger is the detail about initiative, consistency, and outcomes.
A good formula is role plus action plus impact plus commitment. Even if an activity has no big numbers attached, you can still highlight contribution: mentoring younger students, creating materials, showing up weekly, or helping a group run smoothly.
Also include context when needed. If you had limited access to activities, worked to support your family, commuted, or focused on a smaller number of commitments because of other obligations, that helps UConn understand your choices. The goal is to make it easy for a reader to see how you spent your time and what kind of community member you are.
