What should I do after being waitlisted by UConn?
I just got waitlisted by UConn, and it’s one of my top choices. I’m trying to understand what I should realistically do next while I wait for a decision.
I’ve already submitted my application, and now I’m not sure what actions actually help versus what is just busywork.

After being waitlisted by UConn, the most useful step is to accept your spot on the waitlist if you still want to attend, then send a brief, specific letter of continued interest. At the same time, you should commit to another college by its deadline, because a waitlist offer is never guaranteed.
Your next steps should be focused, not busywork. First, check your UConn applicant portal and complete any form required to remain on the waitlist. If UConn allows additional materials, send one concise update that covers two things: that UConn remains a top choice and any new accomplishments since you applied, such as stronger grades, awards, leadership, or a significant project.
Keep that message short and concrete. A good note is usually a few paragraphs, not a new essay. It helps to mention specific academic or campus opportunities at UConn that fit your goals, because that shows genuine interest rather than just repeating that you love the school.
What usually does not help is sending lots of extra emails, submitting several recommendation letters that were not requested, or trying to contact multiple admissions staff members. Unless UConn specifically invites more material, one solid update is better than repeated outreach. If your midyear or final grades improved noticeably, that is the kind of update most worth sharing.
You should also make a real plan assuming the waitlist will not turn into an offer. Deposit at another college you would be willing to attend and complete housing and orientation steps there on time. If UConn later admits you from the waitlist, you can decide then, but you do not want to lose your place elsewhere while waiting.
If finances matter, be prepared for the possibility that a waitlist offer may come with limited time to respond. Have your questions about cost, housing, and enrollment ready so you can make a quick decision if UConn contacts you.
