What are the next steps after being accepted to Stony Brook University?

I just got accepted to Stony Brook and I want to make sure I do everything in the right order. I’m mainly trying to understand the basic steps after an acceptance, like confirming enrollment, handling any deposits, and checking what paperwork or portals I need to complete.

I don’t want to miss something important just because I’m new to the process.

After being accepted to Stony Brook, the main next steps are to check your applicant portal, review your admission letter, submit the enrollment deposit if you plan to attend, and then complete the required onboarding forms. At Stony Brook, most of the post-acceptance process runs through the SOLAR system and your admitted student checklist, so those are the two places to watch closely. You should also monitor your email because housing, orientation, immunization, and financial aid steps are usually released there.

First, log into your Stony Brook applicant portal and confirm whether you need to accept your offer formally.

After that, activate any university accounts you have been instructed to set up, especially your NetID if it has not already been created. Once access is active, use SOLAR to review holds, submit forms, and later register for classes.

You should also take care of financial aid tasks right away. Check for missing FAFSA or TAP items, review your aid package, and submit any verification documents if requested. If you were admitted from high school, arrange for your final transcript to be sent after graduation, since enrollment can depend on receiving official final records.

Housing and orientation are usually separate steps, so do not assume they are automatic after you deposit. If you want campus housing, complete the housing application as soon as it opens. You will also need to sign up for orientation or advisement programs, and Stony Brook commonly requires health forms and immunization documentation before enrollment is fully cleared.

The safest approach is to follow the checklist in your portal item by item and complete anything marked required as soon as it appears. Missing documents, unpaid deposits, or unsubmitted health forms are the most common things that slow students down after acceptance.
