What are the University of Delaware’s strongest academic programs?

I’m looking into the University of Delaware and trying to get a better sense of what it’s especially known for academically. I want to understand which majors or departments are considered the strongest there so I can see whether it would be a good fit for my interests.

I’m mainly trying to get a clearer picture before I start comparing it with other schools.

The University of Delaware is especially strong in engineering, business, nursing, education, and the sciences. It is particularly well known for chemical engineering, partly because of its long connection to DuPont and its strong research profile, and its Lerner College of Business and Economics is one of the university’s most recognized schools.

Chemical and biomolecular engineering is probably the standout program people mention most often. Mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, and materials science are also well regarded. If you are interested in STEM, UD offers the feel of a large research university with access to labs, faculty projects, and undergraduate research opportunities.

Business is another major strength, especially finance, accounting, economics, and management information systems. Nursing is highly respected as well, and UD has invested heavily in health sciences, including simulation labs and clinical training resources. Education has also been a longstanding strong area, particularly teacher preparation and related fields.

In the sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, and marine science are notable. Psychology and communication are also popular and solid, though they are not usually the first programs people cite as UD’s signature academic strengths.
