What financial aid options are available at the University of Delaware for undergraduates?

I’m looking into the University of Delaware and trying to understand how paying for it would work. I know there can be need-based aid, merit scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study, but I’m not sure what kinds of support UD typically offers to undergrads.

I’m mainly trying to get a clear picture of the financial aid options before I apply and decide whether it would be affordable for my family.

The University of Delaware offers undergraduates a full mix of financial aid: need-based aid, merit scholarships, federal and state grants, student loans, and Federal Work-Study. To be considered for most aid, students typically submit the FAFSA. UD’s aid packages often combine university grants or scholarships with federal aid and loans rather than relying on just one source.

These are most commonly awarded to first-year applicants at the time of admission, and many do not require a separate application. Delaware residents may also be able to use state-funded programs if they qualify, which can make a meaningful difference in total cost.

For need-based support, UD undergrads may receive university grants, Federal Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants when available, and state grants for eligible students. Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans are standard parts of many aid packages, and parents can sometimes use the Federal Direct PLUS Loan to cover remaining costs. Federal Work-Study is available for eligible students and lets them earn money through part-time campus or approved off-campus jobs.

If affordability is a major factor, the most useful thing is to check UD’s Net Price Calculator because it gives a more realistic estimate than the sticker price. Also pay attention to whether any scholarship is renewable and what GPA or enrollment requirements you would need to keep it.
