What should I include in a Louisiana State "Why Us" essay?

I’m working on my college essays and Louisiana State has a "Why Us" prompt. I know it is supposed to show fit, but I am not sure what details make the essay feel specific instead of generic.

I want to understand what kinds of things usually belong in this essay so I can explain why LSU is a good match for me without just listing random facts from the website.

For an LSU “Why Us” essay, include specific academic opportunities, student life details, and campus resources that connect directly to what you want to study and how you like to learn. The essay feels strong when it explains both why LSU fits your goals and what you would actually do there, not when it just praises the school. At LSU, that usually means naming a major or academic area, mentioning programs or experiences tied to that interest, and showing you understand the university’s distinctive culture and community.

Start with your academic fit. If you know your intended major, talk about LSU’s colleges, research, labs, fieldwork, internships, or faculty-supported learning in that area. For example, a business applicant might mention the E. J. Ourso College of Business, while an engineering student could point to hands-on design or research opportunities. The key is not just naming them, but explaining why they matter to you: what skill you want to build, what question you want to explore, or what kind of experience you want to have.

Then add 1 or 2 non-academic details that show personal fit. LSU has a strong sense of school spirit, a large SEC-campus atmosphere, and a very active student life. You could mention student organizations, service opportunities, campus traditions, or the Baton Rouge setting if those genuinely connect to how you want to spend your college years.

What usually belongs in this essay is a clear structure: what you want to study, why LSU specifically supports that goal, and how you see yourself participating in campus life. Avoid lines like “LSU has a beautiful campus” or “I know I will thrive there” unless you back them up with something concrete.

A useful test is this: if you could swap “LSU” with another college’s name and the essay still works, it is too generic. The strongest version sounds like only LSU could be the place you are describing, and only you could be the student making that case.
