How should I explain community college honors classes on a college application?

I’m a high school student taking a few honors classes at my local community college through a dual enrollment program. On my application, I want to describe them clearly without making it sound confusing or overcomplicating my schedule.

I’m mainly wondering what the best way is to label or explain these classes so admissions officers understand that they were college-level honors courses, not regular high school classes.

Label them as dual enrollment community college courses first, then note the honors designation exactly the way the college transcript shows it. Admissions officers are used to seeing dual enrollment, and the clearest approach is to avoid inventing your own label. In most applications, the important parts are the institution name, the official course title, and a brief note that the class was taken through a dual enrollment program while you were in high school.

If the application asks for course level, list the class under dual enrollment, college coursework, or advanced if that option exists. If there is an additional information box, one short clarification is enough: “Taken at Local Community College through dual enrollment; honors section of a college-level course.” That tells them these were real college classes and that the honors label comes from the college, not your high school.

Use the official naming consistently across every part of the application. For example, if your transcript says “ENG 101H Composition I,” enter that rather than rewriting it as “High School English Honors.” If your high school transcript abbreviates or relabels the course, the additional information section can clear that up in one sentence.

What matters most is that the course is clearly identified as community college dual enrollment and honors, and that your application matches the transcript. If your school counselor submits a school report, it also helps if their course list or profile notes how dual enrollment courses are recorded.
