How should a homeschool student apply to the University of Washington?

I’m a homeschooled high school junior starting to get serious about college applications, and the University of Washington is one of the schools I’m looking at. I want to make sure I understand how a homeschool applicant should present coursework, transcripts, and other required materials in a way that fits what the university expects.

I’m mostly trying to figure out the best way to approach the application itself as a homeschool student.

A homeschool student applies to the University of Washington through the same freshman application process as other first-year applicants, but you should be especially careful about how you document your academic work. UW expects homeschool applicants to submit a complete transcript showing courses taken, grades earned, and credits, and they may also request additional information such as course descriptions or evidence of how subjects align with college-prep expectations. The application itself is submitted through the Common App for UW Seattle, and homeschooling is a recognized educational path in their review process.

Your transcript should be clear, organized by year and subject, and include the equivalent of ninth through twelfth grade coursework. It helps to list course titles, level of rigor, final grades, credits, and the date of completion. If your program includes outside providers like community college classes, online courses, or dual enrollment, include those separately and send official transcripts from those institutions when required.

For UW, the most important thing is showing that you completed strong preparation in core academic areas such as English, math, social science, lab science, world language, and electives. Since homeschool curricula can vary a lot, brief course descriptions can make your record easier to evaluate, especially for classes with nontraditional titles. A school profile is also useful if a parent or administrator can create one explaining your homeschool structure, grading scale, curriculum choices, and any outside evaluation methods.
