About
Hi! I'm Nick, a 26-year-old Applications Consultant. I have years of experience working with high schoolers through CollegeVine as well as working as a private tutor in writing, math, and science. Originally from Watertown, Massachusetts, I went to high school at Concord Academy and college at UChicago as a National Merit Scholar, where I studied Neuroscience and graduated in 2021. Afterwards, I earned a Research Fulbright to study Human Computer Interaction in Munich, Germany. I've worked as a data scientist and business analyst in the tech industry and in government. I am now starting a PhD in Computer Science and Communication at Northwestern University. Between my hands-on experience as an educator and tutor, and applications and essays I've written for my own academic career from college to Fulbright to graduate school, I am well-equipped to guide students through the college applications process.

How I work
Through years of experience with college application consulting, essay editing, and writing tutoring, I have developed my own method and pace of essay drafting and editing. The initial process involves getting to know the student, their interests, and their goals. Together, we build a list of safety, target, and reach schools based on the student's profile. In parallel, we brainstorm many potential essay topics to address the most common prompts. My expertise is particularly valuable at this step in helping students avoid cliches and focus on engaging themes to stand out to admissions committees. Finally, I work with the student to finalize their drafts, manage deadlines, and make final decisions. As a neuroscience major (and now computer science graduate student) I specialize in helping STEM-interested students both articulate their passion for science and portray themselves holistically.

Advising sessions
Offline Essay Review and Feedback
$100Β | 45 min
In an offline essay review session, I carefully edit and provide comments on a draft (or a series of drafts) of essays. This requires some background information about the applicant, the prompt for the essay, and the draft itself. The output includes the draft with my inline edits and comments, as well as a write up indicating the strength of the essay as it stands and more general feedback.
Book sessionOnline Consulting Appointment
$150Β | 60 min
The details of an online consulting appointment depends upon the applicant's current stage in the college process. Early in the process, this appointment is valuable for building an applicant's list, choosing the best essay prompts, brainstorming topics, and developing Common App personal essay and extracurricular drafts. Mid-process applicants may use the time to talk through more detailed feedback on their application or essays or to prepare for interviews. Applicants at the end of the process might use the time to develop a Waitlist letter to a favorite school or gain perspective in making a final decision.

20 hours

This allows for the ideal back-and-forth: one hour a week is a synchronous online meeting (perfect for topic brainstorming and conceptual feedback) and another hour consists of asynchronous online essay editing and review. This is a >25% discount from my normal hourly rate.
